The East Market ‘NuLu’ district is a revitalized neighborhood located in the heart of downtown Louisville. The city planning department has targeted this neighborhood as a potential Innovation District. East Market Street consists of firms, offices, shops, and restaurants as well as murals and other sidewalk cultural encouragements.

I am proposing educational community spaces, an event space for large gatherings, a coffee bar, and support office spaces.

I am proposing to redevelop the I-65 bridge underpass into a gateway project connecting downtown Louisville and the NuLu neighborhood. This gateway project will serve as the headquarters for NuLu’s community network and development.

This facility will give NuLu residents the opportunity to develop their district on their terms. The site for the facility encourages the redevelopment of existing spaces.

The easiest way to accelerate innovation is to provide an educational space for the neighborhood.

In The Death and the life of Great American Cities, Jane Jacobs discusses the importance of sidewalk culture and how it gives street life. This proposal encourages sidewalk culture by inviting artists to explore techniques on Louisville’s infrastructure.
