The neighborhood of Portland in Louisville, Kentucky has a great deal of history. As one of Louisiville’s innovation districts, new architecture is needed.

Portland lacks enthusiastic appeal Nulu has. The walk culture is practically nonexistent. The expressway divides Portland from the river, separating it from desirable waterfront views and creating a void of non-developable space around the highway.

I designed a multi-programmatic complex that will provide Portland a place to congregate, study, learn, and observe.
Bringing university students and faculty to Portland would bring sidewalk culture to the warehouse district. With the research center, there is also need for buildings to house faculty, a library, and a gallery.

The main material concept consists of wood to contrast with the brick warehouses.
The main program consists of a research center for the University of Louisville’s Department of Anthropology. Louisville has a wide variety of unique neighborhoods and districts.
